Gentles,
I have kind of gotten myself into something.
It's well, it's silly. But it's for a good cause.
here is the cross posted announcement.

OK, guys, from the inspiration of an honored person from the archive, I have decided to do a "stupid" fund raiser at Pennsic this coming year.
I am sorry that this has taken so long to come to you, but the intended charity is the Women's Center of Beaver County. This is a battered woman's shelter that is

Please note, I am in no way associated with the Women's Shelter of Beaver County, and, quite frankly, they have never heard of me. It would just be cool if a lady showed up and gave then a hundred bucks or so, and maybe a humorous video tape.
OK, now, the way this is going to work.
There will be a race, at some non-obnoxious time, from one place to another, at Pennsic. At this point, it looks like it will be from the camp of the Magnificent Eastrealm to the camp of the Mighty Midrealm. This has not yet been determined, and for a fee, the race can (or can not) run through/past your camp.
Each runner must be wearing clothing inappropriate to their gender. That's why it's called a drag race. If women want to run in men's clothing, that's cool, but it is suggested that they run in clothing that is somehow humorous. Really, really massive codpieces are suggested. There will be a minimum five dollar donation for each runner.
Each runner will solicit donors on their own, from their own sources. A central coordinator will be chosen by the board of directors (that would be Allejandro and freiman) tp receive all the money and mail or possibly hand deliver it to the Women's Center of Beaver County. The originator would like to suggest Fiona, at that time Queen of Drachenwald, but any person who is of demonstrated good character is acceptable.
In the interests of maximizing donations, kilts count as gender inappropriate for men for the purposes of the race.
The winner of the race will get to style themselves "Pennsic 37 protector of women"
The racer who garners the most actual cash delivered to the charity will get to style themselves "Pennsic 37 Champion of Ladies".
Anyway, that's the plan. I will run in a tutu, if somebody sews it for me. I can't sew. This is a lightweight thing. I would like to raise a couple of hundred bucks for a battered women's shelter. If you are up for it, or your squire is, please respond here. If nobody else is, then I am spared running through the streets in a tutu.

Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 9:27 AMIt was just on TV last night. A fund raiser for a Women's shelter. "Walk a mile in her shoes". The men wore women's heels and walked one mile to raise money for the shelter. -

Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 10:45 AMyes, I am going to be wearing regular running shoes for this.
injured feet suck at Pennsic.
The route has been determined. thanks to a generous donation from Nissan Maxima, the route will be from the gates of the Tuchux camp, down to east realm royal, down through confed, across the foot bridge, and out through the Clovensheild camp.
Dreadlord Nissan has also promised umbrella drinks for all the runners.
If somebody beats clovensheild's donation, we will change the route. At this point, we have three runners.
We need many more.

Tue, April 29, 2008 - 10:54 AMI'd volunteer, but my knee says I can't run anymore. :-(
C'mon people, sign up. -
-
Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 11:05 AMyou can still donate.
this is a lightweight thing. With Clovensheild's donation, only a little is needed. Talk one of you locals into running, and pay the five bucks.
And call your self a sponsor of the protection of women.

Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 8:04 PMDo kilts count as drag at Pennsic? -
-
Re: Drag Race at War!
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 12:55 AMYes, in the interests of maximizing donations, Kilts count as gender inappropriate clothing for the race. For Both Genders.
For Guys, I really recommend NOT going regimental, because some it can be bad to run that far without some sort of support.

Re: Drag Race at War!
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 9:54 AMMy Lord is willing to run...He would like to do it in an Indian sari or temple dancer clothing..to represent Camp Little India...I will be bringing my video camera for sure...please let us know all the details so I can start sewing.... -
-
Re: Drag Race at War!
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 11:00 AMActually, that's pretty much all the details at this point. We are still looking for somebody of demonstrated good character to hold the money. I wont do it, please don't ask.
Since it's over in that direction, why don't we hold it on the same days as the woods battle, a couple of hours after the fighting.

Re: Drag Race at War!
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 11:02 AMWe're now up to 11 runners (I think) and that means fifty five bucks in entry fees, without donors, plus Nissan Maxima's donation in the name of Clovensheild.
At some point, we will have to call the charity.
f -
-
Re: Drag Race at War!
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 3:35 AMOK, I emailed the charity. I have not heard back yet.
At this point, it looks as if the race will happen Wednesday of war week at dark thirty, starting in the parking lot, and running down past the Horde Camp, across a foot bridge, and into the Clovensheild Encampment.
We still need somebody to hold the money.

Re: Drag Race at War!
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 4:35 PMThat's exactly right.
This is supposed to be fun, an excuse to make fun of ourselves, and help a good cause.
The ladies of my household (Omega Company) are making me a Tutu, and giggling the whole time. I might wear it over tights, but it is more likely that I will wear it over gi pants.
My housebrother Logan Fox is threatening to run it in a G-string, but I am praying devoutly that his girlfriend will stop him from doing that.
It's about having fun, and helping people. It's not about rules.

Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 11:18 AMI'd totally do this, I do 5ks all the time but having run at war practice this past weekend.. please suggest people wear appropriate footwear - the roads are darned uneven!
As to what to wear to be flamboyant? No idea I'll have to come up with something. But I'll be wearing my running shoes on my feet for sure! -

Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 3:31 PMYes, everyone please wear safe footwear! part of the trek heading into Clovenshield is down the hill , across the bridge and up the hill into camp!

Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, May 27, 2008 - 2:04 PMHallo all,
Freiman has appointed me "Great High Drag Race Goddess and Grand Poobah" (I humbly declined anything grander than that). I'll be writing up the list of volunteers, collecting the donations, and maybe running if I can get my butt (or lungs) in shape by then (someone please convince me I should stay at the starting point to take care of latecomers.)
I'll also be pushing for volunteers in person, so if you're in northern Atlantia you might get nagged a few times ;)
Wow, I just realized I haven't been on Tribe in years...

Re: Drag Race at War!
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 3:24 AMHey, everybody!
Things are proceeding. If you have volunteered on this thread, or someplace else, please tag our Grand Poobah and Drag Race Goddess, so that we can get you on the official rolls.
And, D'ner, if you wanted to donate and walk or run, your regular pennsic street clothes will be counted as right for the race.

Re: Drag Race at War!
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 8:40 AMcool... although i might wanna accessorize... : ) -
-
Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 5:30 AMPlease, D'ner, and everybody else for that matter, wear good footwear for running.
I am a little scared (well, in a good way) of what everybody might come up with, but heels are simply a bad idea, period.
We all know what the roads are like at war, and heels are just a bad idea. The juxtaposition of a beard, tutu and running shoes makes me smile when I think about it.
Also, let me take another second and remind everybody that everybody must be "street legal" for the run. the label "registered sex offender" is a little tough to rub off, and if one of us gets arrested for public indecency, then that label would stick to me too, for facilitating it. My wife would lose her job (teaching kids for the government overseas) and that would be that for me. Please, lets wear clothes.
And thanks everybody. We have a chance to make some people safe who need it. And, to have a good time doing it.

Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 9:44 AMyep... good footwear is manditory...
and we don't wanna poke anybody in the eye... so we shoulds wear somptin... decent.. : ) -

Tue, June 10, 2008 - 12:54 PMcan i maybe borrow somebodys metal bra thing? : )

Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 1:13 PM"Please, lets wear clothes. " True... but the quote is funny.
Benefits a Women's Center. A good cause. -

Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 4:41 PMVery much so.
On the BCWS home page, they have a "wish list". One of things at the top of the list is "Bus tickets". Money is tighter this year than usual.
We wont raise a lot of money here, but we might (if we get a lot of people) raise enough to get one or two families to safety. That's a thing worth doing.

Mon, June 9, 2008 - 8:41 AM"And, D'ner, if you wanted to donate and walk or run, your regular pennsic street clothes will be counted as right for the race."
I think we should make him put a pink frilly bow on in the spirit of the race. -
-
Re: Drag Race at War!
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 5:23 AMSeeing D'ner in a Regular Joe office monkey suit is actually a bit unsettling, and is likely a less common sight at Pennsic than bearded fellows jogging in dresses... The one time I think I saw D'ner in a suit, it took a minute before it dawned on me who it was. (hours after sunset in pentwyvern, it's sometimes hard to be sure about things)
