I am moving this Saturday from the Pittsburgh area to the Cleveland area (Strongsville to be exact). I was wondering what kingdom I'll be in and how to contact the local SCA there.. Thanks for the help.

You will be living in the Middle Kingdom and the closest SCA group will be the Barony Of The Cleftlands. Unfortunately Strongsville is on the opposite side of town from the weekly meeting site. We meet in Euclid which is along the lake North and East of downtown while Strongsville is South and West. On the up side, you are close to the archery range at Albion Woods in the metropark. -

Re: Attn: Clevelanders
Wed, September 23, 2009 - 1:51 PMYou might also look into The Shire of Falcon's Quarry. They might be a little bit closer. -

Re: Attn: Clevelanders
Wed, September 23, 2009 - 8:19 PMYou will also be close to Gwyntarian which is Akron and Kent. They have always been a really great group. -

Re: Attn: Clevelanders
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 7:41 AMWe camp with some Gwyntarian related folks... they are a good group. -

You may already know a few of the Cleveland people from Pennsic. Camps with quite a few Clevelanders, aside from the baronial camp itself, are Pentwyvern, Furies Keep (fencers), Bloodjack, Wolfden, Kindred, McCain (drinkers), and Darkyard (fighters).

Re: Attn: Clevelanders
Fri, October 2, 2009 - 9:49 AMHere, maybe this will help. Distance to local SCA meetings in ascending order, as calculated by MapQuest, using the center of Strongsville as a starting point:
Strongsville to the Falcon's Quarry meeting site: about 17 or 18 miles, perhaps 25 minutes driving time, the bulk of which a straight shot on a single surface road. Meeting address is Carlisle reservation Visitor's Center, 12882 Diagonal Road, LaGrange, Ohio 44050; meetings are once or twice a month on Wednesday evenings; check calendar on Shire website (www.midrealm.org/falconsqu...dates.htm) to see when they are scheduled, as it appears to vary. Visit www.midrealm.org/falconsquarry/ for more information.
Strongsville to the Cleftlands meeting site: 30 miles, 38-minute drive, almost entirely highway. Meeting address is Slovenian Hall/Recher Hall, 20713 Recher Ave., Cleveland OH 44119; meetings are held every Wednesday night, with the last Wednesday of every month being Dessert Revel. There are fighter practice, fencing practice and dance practice at nearly every meeting, excepting Revels. Visit cleftlands.cwru.edu/ for more information.
Strongsville to Gwyntarian's meeting site in Akron: about 35 miles, or roughly a 45-minute drive, almost entirely highway. Meeting address is Goodyear Heights Presbyterian Church Annex, Goodyear Hts. Presbyterian Church Annex, 1421 Malasia Rd, Akron, OH 44305; meeting is there every Thursday except for the week which contains the last Friday of the month, in which case the meeting is held in Kent and incorporates Dance Night. Visit www.midrealm.org/gwyntarian/ for more information.
Strongsville to Gwyntarian's meeting site in Kent: 36 miles, 47 minutes of driving, about two-thirds highway. Meeting address is Fred Fuller Park Shelter House, 497 Middlebury Road, Kent, Ohio 44240
Personally, I'm at almost every Cleftlands meeting, and they're a great time. I haven't visited any meetings of the other groups, though I know people in those groups and they are stellar folks. And on a non-SCAdian note: are you by chance a Steelers fan? My husband and I are, and I can tell you where some of the local Steelers fan hangouts (yes, seriously, in Cleveland!) are if you're interested. -

Fri, October 2, 2009 - 12:10 PMwow summer... look at you go! Thanks. I am still trying to settle in, but i really like it here so far. Hopefully it won't be too long until I can get involved. -

Re: Attn: Clevelanders
Mon, October 5, 2009 - 6:39 PMGlad to hear you're getting situated and like the area! Hope to see you at something around here soon. Feel free to stop by the Cleftlands Dessert Revel this month if you've got the time, and don't forget we have Bardic Madness coming up on November 21st. (tilted-windmill.com/bms11/) Plenty of fun for bardic and non-bardic types alike. ;-) If you want to look me up, just ask around for Ana an Locha, or by mundane name as Karen. Heck, even "Summer" will probably work, as half the people in the area know me by that name as well. -

Re: Attn: Clevelanders
Wed, October 14, 2009 - 5:31 PMWell honestly.... wouldn't you rather root for the team that wins more often than loses? Just American nature as competitors... winning is better.
Costco opens in Strongsville on November 18th... Anybody want to sign up early? I can hook you up!
