We got home last night around 830pm. One of the cats hadn't showed herself to our catsitter (my mom) for the whole 2 weeks we'd been gone. She met us at the top of the steps as soon as we got home - she was fine.
I love Pennsic. I'd love it even more if there were more flushies available and maybe some real shower facilities. I could go another week or two if I had those.
There's just some strange difference between being clean at Pennsic, and that first real shower when you step out onto a bathroom rug - when you feel truly clean instead of mostly clean with a little bit of gritty.
Can't wait till next year though. :)

Re: Home again
Mon, August 10, 2009 - 11:58 AMGot home at 3:30 Sat and left the tuck packed in the garage. I just wanted a two hour nap to refresh, slept through the alarm and woke up after a 5 hour nap. I suppose I needed it. Emptied the truck Sunday and I am still workingt to empty or clean things today...no rush I am still on Pennsic time...nice and slow.

Re: Home again
Mon, August 10, 2009 - 12:09 PMI got home late Saturday night.
In that half-awake state on Sunday morning, I was sooooo pleasantly surprised to find that someone had attached my bathroom to my tent. Then I woke up and realized I was home again. It was nice not to have to tramp through the dew first thing in the morning.
Spent Sunday in a lazy daze. I go to pick up my stuff from the guy who drove it cross country for me this evening. Then the laundry and unpacking will begin in earnest. -

Re: Home again
Mon, August 10, 2009 - 9:28 PMHome Sunday evening around 8:30 PM.
Have to argue with a few of you about showering though - I just never feel cleaner than that 1st shower under the trees after set-up day and all the grunge and grime.
Showering at home - although here I have 80 gallons of steaming hot water at my disposal - simply cannot compare to that shower-in-the-dark by lamplight, feet in the mud, and shaving without a mirror outside under the trees better-hurry-before-the-hot-runs-out clean I achieve at Pennsic. Have actually thought about how to run hot and cold outside for a 3-season shower here at home for years now. Maybe out back to under the apple/maple tree set on the North side of the house..... Hmmm....
Someone PLEASE take me back to War? - But the rest of y'all have to be there too - just isn't Pennsic without all the players. -

Re: Home again
Thu, August 13, 2009 - 1:11 PMI thought I was the only one who was like that..but IMHO you're a bit of a tenderfoot if you're using hot water and doing it in the dark. All a person needs are 2 gallon jugs (both cold).---one for long hair and one for the rest of me...showing in a copse of pine trees ( no mud plus a natural privacy screen). I have to disagree on the showering in the dark bit tho'...nothing like being naked when the sun is coming up and watching it dapple through the trees while showering.
The thing I hate MOST in the world are shower curtains... -

Re: Home again
Thu, August 13, 2009 - 1:46 PMi don't have any shower curtains... and i love the smell of the outside breeze and the ozone when i shower

Re: Home again
Thu, August 13, 2009 - 1:57 PMWe all know about you and your outer naked self. :)
I think the second-best thing is being high up in the Rockies, jumping into a glacier fed swimming hole and then dragging yourself gasping onto a hot rock and then baking like a lizard in the sun. Nothing better to wash the sweat and grime off. If you ever go to Green Mtn Falls, CO, take the old, overgrown logging trail up the creek coming down the mtn face and you'll find the spot I'm talking about. It is bear and lion watering hole so stap on a 45 and keep your eyes and ears peeled.

Re: Home again
Tue, August 11, 2009 - 5:33 AMMy camp mostly left Saturday afternoon, I didn't leave site until 5PM Sunday due to my passengers camp *still* not being down. But I made a new friend and she helped me out with my car packing while I was waiting.,I got to have a last swim with Burning Hand and D'ner, and catch a few friends who were also there late to say goodbye.
We grabbed dinner at the slowest Wendy's ever, drove through a HUGE lightening storm in NY which then turned into a horrendous rainstorm. Got to my sis in laws by midnight, crashed out, up at 9 for breakfast and back in Boston for 4:30 toget my son from camp.
I miss you all already! (Some waaay more than others, you know who you are!!) -

Re: Home again
Tue, August 11, 2009 - 5:47 AMFeel like it took three days to get home - took one full car load to mom's on Friday (she's 1/2 way between home and Home, an exact hour from Coopers), came back to Pennsic, dropped the canvas to avoid the rain on Saturday, then crashed in a spare mundane tent Friday night. Our whole camp packed out Saturday, so back to mom's with the second car load. Unloaded there - again - repacked AGAIN - all but the tent, cooler, and a few fragile things, then drove home to Cleveland on Sunday. It will still take one more trip to mom's to get the rest of my stuff.
I can't even think about laundry and unpacking yet.
Gotta say, loosing an entire day on Friday really sucked. Not having to deal with wet canvas is a good thing, but I won't be doing this again...it's either a rental truck next year or a minion to haul all this crap. -

Re: Home again
Tue, August 11, 2009 - 8:45 AMWe got our campmates out with two canvas tents Saturday before it rained but did not get our tent down dry on Sunday. What is worse taking down wet canvas or setting it up wet in the rain Monday night? Made it as far as Erie befor ethe tow vehicle crapped out. Rigged the minivan to tow the trailer and had the Big Van towed home. So far the driveshaft is screwed and the tranny isn't lookign too good. This may be the most expensive Pennsic for us ever. -

Re: Home again
Sat, August 22, 2009 - 5:34 AMI miss Pennsic. :-(
I took my eleven year old for the first time this year, and while it was definitely a different view of Pennsic (no classes, for one thing), he loved it, and can't wait to go back next year. Next year I'm bringing all three boys!
We had water heaters for both kitchen and shower, and a triple filter for the kitchen, so we had potable running water in the kitchen! It was fantastic.
