what were you doing then? what is different now?

1976- Living in a 'back to nature' commune. Working in a factory with a co-worker who asked me to go out west and help him start a commune. (Charles Manson) I was still trying to 'be the man'. Working for not much more than min wage.

Today- Live 24/7 as a woman, got an Associate Degree in Accounting, great job, two grandsons and some of the best friends a person could have. At 62 years of age I feel like I am only now finding myself.

Sounds like you have had an interesting life! Did you know Oliver Stone is working on a Charles Manson biography?

    Oh, as far as 1976: I didn't exist yet. I wasn't born until 1978. I know, I'm young... I feel old because...

2009: I'm a non-traditional economics major in college. I'm 30 and surrounded by 18-24 year olds constantly. I have one year left to go before I have to go get a job or get snapped up by a grad school. When I'm not doing school work I like to code. I made and grew the most trafficked college simulation in the world on SecondLife. It doesn't take up much time since it started moving under it's own momentum so lately I've been working on PHP and SQL and a few other emerging technologies... hopefully someday I'll have a browser based MMO up and running. I doubt that my passion for creating digital content will ever make me any money, but I love doing it.

Oh, I might as well introduce myself again, since most people don't know me here anymore... I'm an old throwback from the pennsic.net days. I haven't been to these boards in years. I used to have fun picking on some of the tuchuks and they enjoyed kicking my butt IRL, but it's ok... I probably deserved it. :)

I haven't been able to get to Pennsic since I went back to college because being a student doesn't pay very much. It's frustrating because I'm like 45 minutes away from Coopers Lake now, at IUP.

LOL being conceived then, born in 77

Now, I exist. ;) BS in Music, run a game development studio, work as an IT admin, as well as a ballroom dance instructor. Have a rock band, and produce music for a rapper, on top of everything SCA. ;)

1976. I was in third grade living in Norwood Ma. I believe I was in Girl Scouts and just starting to learn the trumpet.

    2009

I'm married and living less than 30 miles from where I grew up. I'm married with a teenager who is currently playing in two school bands. I do sci-fi conventions and SCA for fun. Oh and I have pink hair ;)

Well..letsee, I was 4 years old and only a couple of years away from major scoliosis nonsense. Living in a small town in Ontario Canada.

Now...married 2 kids, 2 and 4, both girls no more scoliosis but wicked big scar on my back.. Doing the SAHM thing for one more summer then back to work in the school system. No more SCA for me cause the hubby is a party pooper but I still do Pennsic every year.:)

In '76 I was 11, and the biggest thing I remember was getting an old used stereo with turntable big enough to play LP's, an 8-track, and an FM radio. I went from playing Disney 45's my parents bought to hearing real music. First thing I heard was Rhiannon, and I was hooked like a junkie.

In '09 I'm expanding my collection of bootleg performances of bands from then and now. Equipment is much bigger and more sophisticated, and my collection has grown, but other than that...

And I still get the same chills as the first time, when I hear Stevie sing "Knocking on Doors" and a few other bootlegs.

The only vice that has rivaled music came a bit later, when I found these books by an author by the name of Tolkien...

In '76 i was 14. Sneaking out of my second floor bedroom window at night. Going camping with my family. Horseback riding. Clothes, boys, jewelry, music (in no particular order)....typical teenage girl. Oh yeah, and school every now and then.

Now, i live away from my home town. Still camping. Still clothes, men, jewelry, music.......again typical. In addition, gardening, belly dance, sewing and the SCA. Real school done, actually love school now, so from time to time i take some type of class. Be it to expand in my degree area, or just for fun. i have two dream jobs, neither are in my degree area. LOL
i'm still that edgy, restless girl. i don't think i'll ever grow out of that.

            Nineteen Seventy-Six...

            I was - what? - Ummm...... 7? - er, no... wait. I was 6. Yeah - 6.... Maybe I was 5....

All I remember is red shirts, with white belts over bluejeans and seeing (and owning) a number of Budweiser hats (they were red, white and blue too..) 'Naner-seat bikes, CB radios, (Breaker there channel 10 - got yer ears on there Rubber Duck?) 8-tracks, 8 transistor AM radios rubberbanded to bicycle handlebars, the "Big 8", CKLW out of Windsor and Byron MacGregor's "The Americans" playing about every 12 songs in rotation.... Oh, and Jim Croce - lots of him.... Well, and bellbottom jeans - FOR MEN. Like to know why the women got them back and trying to find a pair for a dude is nigh-on impossible nowadays - but you can sure find plenty of gross, butt-crack-underwear-hangin'-out sloppy-looking, I-have-no-ass bad-fitting floppy jeans for men EVERYwhere.... Not to mention "shorts" that reach below one's knees - what's up with THOSE? Less is MORE man... (Grrr....)

(Gonna go watch "Dazed and Confused" again with a can of Pabst and some Doritos...)

            ;o)

I listened to CKLW until I found WMMS and WGCL.

I still have a pretty extensive 8-track collection too. There are moments in certain songs on CD that still sound funny to me, because there are dropoffs from the track changes when you record vinyl to 8-track, and I got used to them.

Now I get frustrated when the bootlegger didn't record at a high enough bitrate...

Another funny thing about CD's and the old long play records. If you listen to the same album over and over you get used to the order. Then you hear the group in person and something is wrong when they do your songs 'out of order'.

i remember the hot summers, sitting in the shade and cranking up the ol' phonograph and spending hours looking at the stereo-optican…

oh wait… i mean i liked listening to stereo (quad actually) with all different kinds of miss- matched components… with the new window airconditioner humming in the background,
                  and looking at the view-master…

                  and frizbee :)

An off topic comment, The tv station I work for used to air those Time/Life music collections type of infomercial. After listening to that day after day, week after week, I learned the songs in snippets and then was surprised when I heard it on the radio and it didn't change songs after the snippet. What's even worse is I had a co-worker that would sing along with the infomercial.

yeah, its odd when a song comes back in a movie... and then everybody thinks its new

Hmmm 1976? I was in sixth grade. Helping out my mom with the local Bi-centennial Ball held at the university in the basketball court on NYE. What a way to start the year. We were defintely middle income. Mom was a teacher and dad worked at the bank. We lived in an old victorian house (sort of) in the center of town so I was walking distance from most things including schools. I was well aware of "girls" havign found a stash of Penthouse magazines. Was probably more knowledgeable BUT less experienced than my friends in matters of the opposite sex. I was VERY painfully shy back then. On the cusp of heading to Jr. High and forming a whole new set of friends and experiences. Talk about culture shock. By the end of the summer I had almost died. Tripping while running to the back door and falling thru the glass on the storm door face first. Sliced myself up pretty bad. No swimming that summer.

Sixth grade Val? I didn't realize you were that much older than me. I was 4 in 1976... I guess we were in Canfield OH at the time... I remember being in a Fourth of July parade dressed in a colonial/pioneer outfit (or at least I remember the pictues of it). Don't really remember much more, exept going to the kid's next door to watch Donnie and Marie on TV.

1976---3rd grade---Bicentennial, and living so close to Philly it was coming out our ears. I remember doing colonial crafts in class and I had whole books I made on colonial days and gave to my Grandmother. When she died my family gave them back to me...like I need some picture of George Washington I colored when I was 8 or so. Didn't we have some olympics then too? I think that was around the time I began to watch the olympics. I still like to watch that. I remember they moved a colonial stone house in Quakertown that year too. It is common place now but not so much back then, it was a big deal. I also remember going out to rt 309 to see the Cross Country Wagon Train to celebrate the bicenteninal. Skylab was a big deal then too. I had chickens and a black pony. Good times.

2009---Im old--thanks for reminding me. I have 30 until I get to pennsic....Who's gonna party with me?
