  • Does being drawn to the sound of drums count? How about being drawn to follow random groups of gypsy women?

No seriously there is no ONE PLACE I love more than any other at Pennsic. Like Sarab I love the view from on top of Mt Eislen, and like Kate I roll down hill toward the lake every night, sometimes I will sit on the little shaded path across the road from the food court near troll just to watch people coming and going, or sit under the shade tree to listen to A bard play (Melissa the Loud plays there a lot), but there is no one place I like more than any other.
  • First and foremost, the fire. I am a fire sign and I love fire. Pennsic is fire: fire sounds, fire sights, fire smells. Fire is good. Fire is our friend. I like to sit and watch, no, play with the fire. Burn, baby, burn!

Now, I do have a very fond recollection of the archery clout and a lady in the middle of the night under a full moon. . .ahhhhhh, now I'd be drawn to THAT again!

I'm a serengetti dweller and happily stay on the plain where it's mostly flat, rarely leaving House Kaffa except to eat, shop, or fight, and I don't really have to go out to eat that often because we have a big kitchen and lots of cooks in camp. And our own bar.

And this year I will be drawn to the lake again to catch some more bass. Caught a pretty big one last year, and my squire caught one even bigger. They liked purple worms.

And one heretical place. Why heretical? Because it's actually off site. McConnel's Mill state park a mile to the left down 422 where it's about 10 degrees cooler in the gorge by the white water, the three story mill, and the waterfall down the path. I go there once each year.
  • Thought I would bump this up for the new folks.

At Pennsic 35 is was my chair/hammock under the shade net...
    • The oak tree in W05, I go to visit as soon as I troll in. I just sit there in the dark and absorb the fact that I am home again. On Sunday when set up is (mostly) complete we put 2 hammocks in its shade. It is a camp rule that no one puts a tent under the tree, that is our common ground. Pink Fuzzy Bunny is always hilly and hard to pitch a tent in, some years we have even taken less land than we should have – but we have no complaints as long as we have our tree.
I love to walk around the lake at night, and sit by the fire pit talking, the dancing is wonderful, and the partying is fun… but that tree is home.

PS Darter - thank you for the calendar, one of the 3 I bought is hanging in my office, cheering me when the mundane is closing in.

      • ~ i followed the sound of drumming all over Pennsic this year. wherever a great drum circle had formed, that was always my favorite place to be. at least until the drummers dissolved into the night , and i would start hunting for a new circle to enjoy.

~ my frequent visits to Lake Arthur

~ and of course my camp was always a welcome relief at the end of a long day. late at night, i would hang out with my campmates as we laughed ourselves to tears, telling stories and passing the bottle(s).
  • Hammocks. ;) Whichever camp, whoever's, doesn't matter.

The best way to beat the heat on a really ferocious day (and I mean, the kind that causes seasoned Pennsic veterans drop down, go "boom" and faceplant):

-Sling a hammock in a shady spot.
    -Make a fresh mojito.
    -Douse yourself with water.
    -Crawl in, fall asleep.
-Don't come out till the big fiery sky-ball goes away.

Steps 2 through 4 may have to be repeated a few times. ;)
  • I have a few.

The classic..I have a lot of friends down in the Swamp.

and before anyone starts again yes yes naked fat people oh noes blah blah blah.

    Moving along.

Revelwood. I miss those guys like hell when I'm home. Same goes for the Hedgehogs. not a day goes by at Pennsic that I don't stop in both those camps and just relax.
  • At first I couldn't think of anything then it started comming to me...

My own table. Just at dinner and right after it. As the sun starts to dim we light candles. we play games, tell stories and sing songs. Often we'll be visited by our favorite roving bard michael kelly, and sometimes we'll get other visitors as well. Often we'll sit and talk and sing so long that the party roving is already in full swing, yet we'll still be sitting arround our table.

the classic, a litle upstream. Like 3 or 4 feet upstream of the normal floating area. There's something abotu the shade and being surrounded on green by both sides with cool water all arround you and you're just a floatin all natural. :) Then you let the current take you down stream a bit and you're surrounded by friends. It's easy to make friends when you're naked.

My stroll strip. from vlad's arround the corner past prechain, toward wulfsden, bear left, turn right at rozaki, across the bridge onto the island, then down the island to the end (arround the classic, but dark water scares me so i don't go too near it at night alone.) At any point int he night you can probaly find me padding along that trail stopping by camp after camp, popping in and seeing what's going on ith my friends and where the fun things and good fires are that night.

Then to top the night off... It almost dosne't matter how tired I am or who's camp i was at, at the end of the night when i want to go to bed, i'll almost always take a pit stop in at vlad's (if it's open). I've referred to it as my pennsic diner, since i'm from jersey. It's just were I go to see a few more smiles, and have a little it more warmth before strolling back around the corner and going to bed.
