My father was a builder and had his own construction company. I would work for him on weekends and summer vacation. One time I held a long pole with a hook on the end. My job was to reach out with the pole and catch the rope hanging from the object the crane was lifting onto the building. That was so the men could guide the object into place. Job was called "Hooker".

Before I went to college I used to work in factories. Once I had a job striping the rubber coatings off the rollers used in the printing industry so they could be re-coated. I was a "Stripper". We used to make a lot of jokes about working there. We work with long poles. We wrap them, polish them. We stretch rubber on them. If one of them fell on the floor everyone had to jump around to keep from getting hurt from them. (they can weigh from a few pounds to a ton or more.) When someone had to jump over a rolling one it was said "They were poll dancing", etc.

I was a private investigator. Let me tell you, it's not nearly as interesting as episodes of Magnum P.I. would have you believe.
